Quick answer: Set up your school year and A/B rotation, list your blocks, type the classes that meet on A days and on B days, choose the dates, and download the PDF. Each weekly page is dated and labelled “A Day” or “B Day”, with your classes printed in the right blocks and lined space to plan. Holidays and breaks are greyed out. Everything is free.
What's in the planner PDF
| Page | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Cover and contents | Your title, name, school and dates, with a clickable “jump to” button for each month |
| My schedule | Your blocks and times, with the classes for A days, B days and any fixed day side by side |
| Monthly calendar | The whole month with each day's letter, holidays and notes. Every day links to its week |
| Weekly plan pages | Monday to Friday columns, one row per block, each day's letter and the class in each block, with lined writing space |
A full 2026–27 school year like the example is 41 weekly pages plus 10 monthly pages. Pick Next 4 weeks to print just the coming month.
How to make your A/B day lesson planner
- Check the calendar. Enter your first and last day, A/B rotation, holidays and breaks (further down this page).
- List your blocks. Name each block or period and add its time, for example “Block 1, 8:00–9:30”.
- Fill in A-day and B-day classes. Click A Day and type the class for each block, then do the same for B Day. Leave planning periods blank or type “Planning”.
- Choose dates and pages. Next 4 weeks, a semester or the whole year, with or without the cover and monthly pages.
- Download and print. Print double-sided and hole-punch it for a binder, or open it in a PDF annotation app.
Why a dated, rotation-aware planner helps
Undated plan books mean writing the dates, the letter day and each block's class into every square, then crossing it all out when a snow day shifts the rotation. Generated pages get the dates and letters right from the calendar, show holidays before you plan a lesson for them, and can be reprinted from any week after the schedule changes.
Attendance sheets that follow the rotation
Under the planner, Class pages from a roster turns a pasted class list into an attendance sheet whose columns are the dates that section actually meets. Choose “Algebra 1 · A Day, Block 1” and you get only A-day dates, already adjusted for holidays and snow days, plus a gradebook, a seating chart and a family contact sheet. Names are never saved or uploaded. For a planned absence, click the day in the calendar and download a one-page substitute plan with that day's blocks and classes.
Teaching on a block with an all-classes day?
If Monday (or another day) is an all-classes day, set it as a fixed weekday in the calendar. The planner then adds an All classes tab so you can list the shorter periods for that day. See the block schedule calendar for an example.
FAQ
What is an A/B day lesson planner?
It's a plan book whose pages are dated and marked with each day's rotation letter, with the right classes printed in the right blocks. You don't have to work out which classes meet on which date.
How many periods can the planner have?
Up to 10 periods or blocks, each with an optional time. Different classes can meet on A and B days, and fixed days such as an all-classes Monday get their own list.
Can I use it in GoodNotes or Notability?
Yes. Tick “Clickable month tabs” to add month tabs down the side. Month pages link to their weeks and week pages link back. The links work in PDF apps that support them, including GoodNotes and Notability.
What if a snow day changes the rotation?
Mark the snow day in the calendar and download the planner again. Every page after the closure gets the new letters and classes. If you've already written in a printed copy, print only the weeks you need with the From and To dates.
