6-Day Rotation Calendar (Day 1–6 Cycle)

Number every school day from Day 1 to Day 6, skipping weekends, holidays and closures. Print it, put it in Google Calendar or share a link.

Quick answer: In a 6-day cycle, school days are numbered Day 1 to Day 6 in order and then repeat, ignoring weekends and days off. The first two weeks of school go Day 1–5, then Day 6 on the second Monday, then Day 1 again. Enter your school year above and BellBook numbers every day for you, including after holidays and snow days.

How a Day 1–6 cycle lines up with the week

Because there are six days in the cycle but five days in a school week, the Day numbers drift across the weekdays. Here are the first ten school days of the example year:

Mon
Day 1
Tue
Day 2
Wed
Day 3
Thu
Day 4
Fri
Day 5
Mon
Day 6
Tue
Day 1
Wed
Day 2
Thu
Day 3
Fri
Day 4

That drift is why families and students lose track. A printed calendar or a “What day is it?” link avoids the guesswork.

Where 6-day cycles are used

  • Elementary specials. Art, music, PE, library, STEM and a second PE or computer slot each take one day of the cycle, so each class sees each specialist once per cycle.
  • Middle and high school drop rotations. Six or seven classes rotate through the day's periods in a different order on each Day number.
  • Lab and section rotations where six groups share a room or a resource.

Counting Day 1–6 across the school year

BellBook shows how many times each Day number occurs, which is useful for planning a specials curriculum. In the example year above (Aug 17, 2026 to May 28, 2027, 184 school days) the counts are:

Day 1Day 2Day 3Day 4Day 5Day 6
313131313030

If the counts matter for your program, compare the two snow-day rules. “Rotation continues” keeps the counts even, while “skip the day” means one Day number loses a meeting for each closure.

Make your 6-day rotation calendar

  1. Enter the first and last day of school.
  2. Keep the rotation at Day 1–N cycle with 6 days, and choose which day the year starts on.
  3. Add federal holidays and your breaks, plus any teacher workdays.
  4. Download the PDF: a year-at-a-glance page for the office and monthly pages for classroom doors.
  5. Optional: add each day's classes in the lesson planner to print dated plan pages that follow the cycle.

FAQ

What is a 6-day rotation?

It's a schedule where school days are numbered Day 1 to Day 6 and then start again at Day 1. Because a school week has five days, each Day number falls on a different weekday from one week to the next.

How many times does each day come up in a school year?

It depends on the number of school days. In the example 2026–27 year with 184 school days, each Day number comes up 30 or 31 times. BellBook shows the exact count for your calendar above the preview.

What happens to Day 1–6 on a holiday?

Nothing is used up: the cycle pauses and the next school day gets the next Day number. If the day before the holiday was Day 4, the day after is Day 5.

Can I make a 4-, 5-, 7- or 8-day cycle instead?

Yes. Choose Day 1–N cycle and any length from 2 to 10 days.
